• value add up to 100%

• small number of items

• audience does not care about exact difference

• able to read black / white

• non-technical audience

Captions & Labels

Effective Caption

• number your visualization, using independent number schemes for tables and figures

• describe what the visualization contains—in particular any items that are being compared

• explain the units of measurement, including the high and low points of any scales used

• optionally include a one-sentence summary of the visualization’s main story
