PhD students are required to serve as a GTA at least once prior to their third year of study. They are also required to complete a TA development course- CETL 8802- during their first semester as a doctoral student. This course is offered Fall and Spring and is 2 credits.

Teaching in Summer
Students looking to teach a course in the summer must:
have permission from the course owner
a. contact the course owner
b. share the syllabus of the course they have taken — student who wants to teach the course must have taken that course at Tech
c. share evidence that they have both conceptual and working knowledge / have published in the field or have publications with relevant methods/approaches they will teach
d. set up a meeting to discuss proposed summer syllabus
e. if permission is given, set up a debrief of how course progressed
f. Student's CIOS evaluations will determine whether they will be allowed to teach it again (among other considerations)
have permission from the advisor
a. student that are NOT in good standing should not be considered for summer teaching
b. students that have had confirmed academic integrity cases should not be considered for summer teaching
